Description
1993 Ferrari 348TS Serie Speciale – No. 52 of 100, Platinum Award Winner, Two Owners, Books & Tools
This 1993 Ferrari 348TS Serie Speciale is a rare, low-production model representing one of just 100 examples built exclusively for the U.S. market. Finished in Rosso Corsa over a tan leather interior, this example is number 52 in the production sequence and comes with a clean CARFAX, original books and tools, a car cover, and a comprehensive service file. It has covered just 16,500 miles from new and presents as a highly original, concours-level car with documented history and long-term ownership.
Serie Speciale: A Rare Evolution of the 348
Unveiled at the 1992 Los Angeles Auto Show, the Serie Speciale variant of the Ferrari 348 introduced a number of performance and design upgrades over the standard model. Technical enhancements included a freer-flowing exhaust, a shorter final drive ratio, a wider rear track, and Z-rated Pirelli P Zero tires, all contributing to improved dynamics. Visually, the model gained a revised front spoiler, flush-mounted taillights without the grille, color-matched bumpers and trim, and a prancing horse added to the front grille for the first time on a 348.
Interior updates included Kevlar-backed F40-style bucket seats wrapped in leather, leather-trimmed door panels, and exclusive Serie Speciale badging, offering a unique and more focused driving environment. The 3.4-liter V8 remained naturally aspirated and rated at 312 horsepower—an increase over the standard 300hp—mated to a 5-speed gated manual transmission.
History & Condition
This example, chassis ZFFRG36A6P0095017, was delivered new in 1993 and has had just two previous owners. It remained with its original owner until 2015, accumulating 14,850 miles, before changing hands and being driven sparingly by its second owner. It has since been under the care of its current collector owner and continues to benefit from careful, climate-controlled storage and light, fair-weather use.
A major service was completed in 2015 at 14,936 miles. In preparation for concours display, the car was sent to RB Collection for additional detailing and prep, totaling over $2,000 in professional care. The vehicle went on to win a Platinum award at the Reading Ferrari Concours (FCA event), validating its exceptional preservation and presentation.
All factory body panels retain excellent paint depth and consistency, believed to be original. The glass and trim show typical light aging with minor delamination around the edges—common to these cars—but remain clean and correct throughout. The F40-style bucket seats, dash, and interior trim remain remarkably clean, free of warping, stickiness, or shrinkage. The engine bay and underside are equally tidy and present as expected from a low-mileage, collector-maintained Ferrari.
Mechanical Condition
The 3.4L V8 starts readily, idles smoothly, and revs freely with excellent response. The manual gearbox shifts precisely, with a firm clutch and positive gear engagement through the classic Ferrari gated shifter. Suspension and braking systems perform with confidence and composure, and the car wears Firestone Firehawk Wide Oval tires in excellent condition with ample tread.
Documentation & Extras
This car is offered with its original books, complete tool kit, car cover, available service records, and a clean CARFAX report. It is a platinum-awarded, investment-grade example of a limited-production Ferrari with excellent provenance and meticulous maintenance history.
Summary
With only 100 examples built, the 348 Serie Speciale is not only the final and rarest variant of the 348 line, but also the car that laid the foundation for future Ferrari special models such as the 355 Fiorano and 360 Challenge Stradale. This particular car—No. 52, with low mileage, concours recognition, documented history, and outstanding preservation—represents a compelling opportunity for collectors seeking a distinctive, factory-special Ferrari with long-term value and driving enjoyment.
