1972 International Harvester Scout II – 304 V8, Auto, Power Disc Brakes, Lifted & Sorted
This 1972 International Harvester Scout II is a well-sorted, lightly modified example finished in Shadow Grey with a white removable hardtop. Powered by a 304ci V8 paired with an automatic transmission, it shows just over 91,000 miles and features a number of desirable upgrades including power disc brakes, HEI ignition, rebuilt Dana axles, and a modest suspension lift riding on 33×12.50 mud terrains. Offered by a seasoned seller, this Scout is described as a reliable and capable vintage 4×4 ready for daily use or off-road adventure.
Finished in Shadow Grey, a color closely resembling International Harvester’s Embassy Grey, this Scout presents with driver-quality paint—clean and glossy but not too precious to take off-road. A custom front winch bumper adds utility and attitude, and the white removable hardtop gives the classic two-tone Scout look. Exterior details show well, with correct trim, clean glass, and rugged 15-inch alloy wheels wrapped in aggressive all-terrain tires.
The brown, tan, and plaid interior has been nicely preserved and is very much in keeping with the era, with correct bucket seats, center console, and a tidy dash layout. Upholstery and interior surfaces show minimal wear, and the factory under-dash A/C unit remains in place—said to be potentially functional with new lines and a compressor.
Mechanically, this Scout has received significant recent attention:
-
2017: Rebuilt Dana front and rear axles
-
Power front disc brake conversion
-
HEI ignition system
-
Transmission reseal, fuel sender, heater core, and more (over $8,000 documented)
-
2018: New exhaust system
Factory options include:
-
304ci V8
-
Automatic transmission
-
Power steering
-
Power front disc brakes
-
Bucket seats with center console
-
Removable hardtop
-

Underneath, the chassis presents as solid and functional, with signs of use but no noted structural issues. The modest lift allows for increased clearance and better stance without compromising drivability. The Scout is said to run and drive well, with sorted handling and strong mechanical feel.
