Description
1972 BMW 3.0CS – Baikal Blue Over Red Leather – Rotisserie Restored – Rebuilt M30 I6 – 5-Speed Manual – 2 Owners – 300 Miles Since Completion
Exterior Condition:
This 1972 BMW 3.0CS is presented in its rare and factory-original Baikal Blue Metallic (042) over red leather — a stunning color combination that captures the essence of BMW’s golden era of design. The car underwent a full rotisserie restoration between 2014–2017, including complete disassembly, body stripping, metal correction, and professional repaint in original spec. Chrome trim, bumpers, and all emblems were either replated or replaced as needed.
New rubber seals, restored glass, and upgraded lighting were fitted throughout. Body lines are crisp, panel alignment is tight, and finish shows minimal wear from the 300 post-restoration miles. A true standout from any angle — this car commands attention with elegance.
Interior Condition:
Inside, a fully reupholstered red leather interior complements the deep blue exterior beautifully. Both seats and door cards are trimmed in fresh leather, with matching new carpets, headliner, and rechromed or replaced interior trim. The original wood inlays were entirely replaced — including the shifter and center console, which were professionally refinished during the restoration.
While the car was originally fitted with factory A/C, the system was not restored. However, the wiring and ducts remain in place for future retrofit. VDO gauges, center stack controls, and the period-correct cassette head unit all function as intended. The interior is nearly showroom fresh and offers a rich, vintage ambiance.
Mechanical & Powertrain:
Under the hood sits a rebuilt 3.0-liter M30 inline-six, originally factory rated at 180 hp. The engine was overhauled during restoration, along with a complete rework of wiring, fuel delivery, belts, filters, and stainless exhaust. This car was originally automatic, but now features a rebuilt 5-speed manual gearbox from another BMW — a desirable upgrade that transforms the driving experience.
Mechanically sorted and properly dialed in, the car has traveled only about 300 miles since restoration. Engine bay is clean and tidy, presenting as one would expect from a collector-level build.
Chassis, Suspension & Brakes:
Suspension and brake systems were fully refreshed using OEM components wherever possible. The car rides on its correct 14″ alloy wheels wrapped in Toyo Spectrum Touring tires with strong tread. Steering is tight, braking is responsive, and overall driving dynamics reflect the engineering balance BMW was known for in the early ’70s.
Mileage & Ownership History:
Odometer shows 99,544 miles, though true mileage is unknown due to the extent of restoration and drivetrain updates. Originally sold new in Quebec City, the car remained with its first owner until 2014, when it was acquired by a professional restorer and neighbor who began the full rotisserie project. The second (and current) owner acquired the car in 2015 and oversaw the final stages of restoration. Clean title. No accident history. Built to high-end collector standards.
Documentation & Extras:
Comes with records of the restoration, parts sourcing, and historic registration. Some original components (like the factory automatic transmission) may be available separately upon request.
Investment Note:
Early E9 BMW Coupes have rapidly appreciated in recent years, with properly restored examples commanding strong values globally. This Baikal Blue 3.0CS, finished with period-correct upgrades, rebuilt drivetrain, and only two owners from new, represents an excellent investment-grade classic — ready for shows, tours, or private collection display.
