1968 Pontiac Firebird Coupe – 402ci Big-Block V8, 4-Speed, Baer Disc Brakes, A/C, Boyd Coddington Wheels
This 1968 Pontiac Firebird coupe presents a tastefully upgraded, black-on-black muscle car built for both show and performance. Originally delivered with a V8, this Firebird now houses a non-original 402ci big-block V8 mated to a four-speed manual transmission. Recent mechanical and cosmetic work includes engine resealing, brake system upgrades, suspension enhancements, and air conditioning service, all contributing to a sorted and road-ready classic with muscular curb appeal.
Finished in gloss black over black vinyl upholstery, this Firebird rides on 17″ Boyd Coddington alloy wheels and features Baer four-wheel disc brakes, Bilstein dampers, a hood-mounted tachometer, and a lowered stance. Additional features include bucket seats, a center console, aftermarket audio, and a Holley carburetor, among other enhancements. Approximately 64k miles are shown on the five-digit odometer, with around 200 miles added under current ownership.
This modified Firebird offers a compelling blend of classic design, big-block power, and modern drivability, and is now offered on behalf of the current owner with a clean Florida title.
Exterior – Gloss Black with Muscle Car Stance
The body was previously refinished in gloss black, with the hood repainted and repaired under current ownership. The result is a clean and aggressive look with subtle period cues, such as faux quarter panel vents, bright trim accents, and the hallmark hood-mounted tachometer.
The Firebird’s lowered stance, paired with wide wheels and tires, gives it a planted and purposeful profile while retaining classic Pontiac proportions.
-
Gloss black finish in good condition
-
Hood-mounted tachometer
-
Bright rocker and window trim
-
Faux rear quarter vents
-
Updated chrome front and rear bumpers
Wheels, Suspension & Braking – Boyd Coddingtons, Bilsteins & Baer Discs
This Firebird sits on 17″ Boyd Coddington alloy wheels, wrapped in 225/45 front and 235/45 rear Linglong tires. The lowered ride height is achieved via upgraded Bilstein shocks, giving it improved handling without sacrificing ride quality.
For stopping power, the car features Baer four-wheel disc brakes, and recent work includes:
-
New brake booster
-
New power steering pump
-
Front brake pad replacement
-
New brake lines and fuel lines
The suspension and braking systems were sorted in March 2025, readying the car for confident cruising or spirited driving.
Interior – Black Vinyl Buckets, Console, and Custom Touches
Inside, the cabin retains a mostly stock appearance with a few tasteful upgrades. The front bucket seats and rear bench are upholstered in black vinyl, with a matching center console and woodgrain trim. The dash hosts a 160-mph speedometer, fuel gauge, and a trio of aftermarket auxiliary gauges mounted in the center stack.
A Clarion CD player is discreetly installed in the trunk, feeding aftermarket rear-deck speakers, while the original push-button AM radio remains in place. The steering wheel is a three-spoke aftermarket unit adorned with a correct-style ’68 Pontiac center cap.
Additional updates include:
-
Air conditioning system repairs
-
Driver’s seat rail mod for taller drivers
-
Aftermarket tachometer on the hood
-
Rubber floor mats and clean carpeting
The five-digit odometer displays 64,500 miles, approximately 200 miles of which were added by the current owner.
Powertrain – 402ci Big-Block V8, Holley Carb, 4-Speed Manual
Power comes from a 402ci big-block V8 installed under prior ownership. The engine features a Holley Street Demon 750 cfm four-barrel carburetor, Be Cool aluminum radiator, and twin electric fans for improved cooling. The motor received an extensive reseal in March 2025, with the following components replaced:
-
Rear main seal
-
Oil pan gasket
-
Valve cover gaskets
-
Intake manifold gaskets
-
Motor mounts
Backing the V8 is a four-speed manual transmission, and the bellhousing was replaced in preparation for sale. The drivetrain is responsive and muscular, with power sent to the rear wheels through a solid and reliable setup.
Summary
This 1968 Pontiac Firebird coupe blends iconic American muscle car styling with a series of thoughtful mechanical and aesthetic upgrades. With a black-on-black color scheme, a big-block V8, four-speed manual transmission, and Baer/Bilstein enhancements, this Firebird offers the kind of aggressive yet classic personality that defines the best restomod builds.
Well maintained and tastefully modified, it’s a strong candidate for anyone seeking a turnkey street machine with the heart of a big-block bruiser and the comfort of a well-sorted cruiser.
