1963 Studebaker Avanti R1 – Matching Numbers, Meticulously Restored, 15k Miles
This 1963 Studebaker Avanti R1 is a factory-correct, matching-numbers example that has been fully restored and carefully maintained to showcase the model’s original character and performance. One of the most daring American production cars of its era, the Avanti was designed by Raymond Loewy and built to challenge European styling while delivering serious V8 performance.
Finished in its original Celeste Metallic paint over a white interior, this example features a 4.7-liter (289ci) V8 factory-rated at 240 horsepower, paired with an automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive. Power is delivered smoothly and the car drives with confidence, benefiting from its recent restoration and ongoing upkeep. The fiberglass body remains in excellent shape, retaining the sharp lines, sloping rear roofline, and signature grille-less nose that made the Avanti an instant design icon.
Inside, the white interior has been reupholstered to factory-correct specifications, with period-correct materials and finishes throughout. The cabin features unique instrumentation, aircraft-inspired toggle switches, and a driver-focused layout that reflects the Avanti’s performance ambitions. The odometer shows just over 15,800 miles, believed to be original and consistent with the car’s long-term limited ownership.
With only two owners since new and a restoration focused on preserving originality, this Avanti presents a rare opportunity to acquire one of the most innovative American GT cars of the early 1960s — one that still turns heads with its bold styling and delivers smooth V8 touring power in a sleek and timeless package.
