Description
1962 Chevrolet Corvette – Final-Year C1 with 327 V8, Dual Tops, and NCRS Top Flight Pedigree
Overview
This 1962 Chevrolet Corvette is a beautifully presented final-year C1, finished in classic red over red vinyl and powered by a factory-rated 250-horsepower 327ci V8. Acquired by the selling dealer in 2007, it underwent a comprehensive refurbishment between 2011 and 2012 and remains a well-sorted, highly original example of America’s most iconic sports car. Offered with a 2000-dated NCRS Top Flight award, the owner’s manual, and a car cover, this Corvette is ready to be driven, shown, and admired.
Exterior
The car was refinished in red during its restoration, a color that complements the clean, one-piece bodywork introduced for the 1962 model year when Chevrolet removed the cove-dividing trim. It features a matching removable hardtop and a white soft top, though the soft top’s vinyl is noted to be tight. Additional exterior details include quad headlights, polished bumpers and trim, and dual exhaust outlets.
It rides on original-style 15″ steel wheels with simulated knock-off spinner covers, mounted with whitewall tires. The master cylinder was replaced in 2023, and braking is handled by four-wheel drum brakes.
Interior
Inside, the cabin was refurbished in 2011 and features two bucket seats reupholstered in red vinyl, along with a replaced dash pad and carpeting. A dash-mounted rearview mirror, heater, and period-correct Wonder Bar AM radio preserve the authentic early-’60s driving experience.
The three-spoke steering wheel frames a full set of instrumentation, including a 160-mph speedometer, tachometer, and auxiliary gauges for coolant temperature, amperage, oil pressure, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 85,000 miles, with approximately 2,800 added under current ownership.
Powertrain
Under the hood is a 327ci V8 equipped with a single four-barrel carburetor, delivering 250 horsepower. The carburetor was rebuilt in 2008, and the engine retains its factory configuration. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission and a Positraction limited-slip differential, offering a spirited and engaging driving experience.
Summary
This 1962 Corvette represents the final evolution of the first-generation model, combining timeless styling with authentic mechanical character. With its dual tops, original-style equipment, and NCRS Top Flight recognition, it stands as a collector-grade example that’s equally suited for concours display or weekend drives.
