Body and Paintwork
Originally delivered in Sand Beige with Red pinstriping, this Silver Cloud II now wears a sophisticated two-tone mid-blue over dark blue finish, accented with subtle red pinstripes that echo its original livery. The paint retains a rich gloss and presents with only minor imperfections commensurate with careful use. Notable blemishes include a small area on the passenger side door where the paint was lightly buffed through during detailing, and minor cracking near the rear passenger door lower edge, driver-side trunk lid junction, and a chip on the rear door sill.
Panel fitment is impressively straight and even across the body. The overall impression is one of classic British formality, subtly enhanced by the updated yet respectful colour palette.
Chrome, Glass and Trim
All chrome brightwork, including the bumpers, grille, and window surrounds, present with strong lustre and depth. A few swirl marks are evident on close inspection but do not detract from the overall quality. The glass appears original, with light scratching and edge delamination visible on some panes, though still fully presentable. Headlamps, taillights, and fog lamps are clear and intact.
Chrome-capped wheels with painted inserts complete the period-correct look, with chrome remaining bright and painted areas matching the body colour palette.
Interior
The interior has been beautifully reupholstered in light tan, which contrasts strikingly with the exterior tones. Seat surfaces remain clean and taut, with just minor “bagginess” at some edges noted on close inspection. Tan carpets show only faint signs of wear, primarily in high-traffic areas. The wood trim across the dash and rear picnic trays retains rich colour and a smooth finish, with only light wear to tray edges. The headliner is tight and clean, with slight pulling around the rear pillars.
Factory power windows operate correctly, and all gauges display strong clarity and function. The aftermarket stereo, discreetly installed on the dash’s left side, offers modern usability without significantly altering the cabin’s classic presentation. Notably, a few small holes remain visible in the passenger footwell, a legacy of prior rust that has been undercoated but not fully repaired — visible upon carpet removal or chassis inspection.
Engine Bay and Mechanical
The original 6.2-litre V8 engine starts readily and delivers smooth, ample torque. Recently serviced, it exhibits no obvious fluid leaks or overheating. The engine bay is well detailed and consistent with a car that has seen limited post-restoration mileage.
The automatic transmission engages smoothly and performs without hesitation. Suspension is compliant, as expected, and brakes operate effectively once system pressure has been achieved — common to the model. Pedal feel is soft but progressive, with no fading under normal use. Steering tracks straight with no undue play.
Trunk and Undercarriage
The boot area is finished with well-fitted black carpeting. Underneath sits a clean spare wheel compartment, housing a spare, jack, flashlight, tire pump, and battery cut-off switch. The wooden divider above the wheel well is clean and dry.
The underside of the car presents extremely well, benefitting from light use since the restoration. Painted components remain intact, and surface dirt is minimal. The aforementioned previous rust repair on the passenger floorpan is visible underneath, though undercoated and structurally stable.
Tyres
Fitted with Coker Classic whitewall tyres, which maintain excellent tread depth, clean sidewalls, and no signs of cracking or dry rot — perfectly suited to the car’s classic silhouette.
Driving Impressions
Behind the wheel, this Silver Cloud II delivers a refined, period-accurate motoring experience. The V8 engine provides a satisfying surge of power, and once warmed, the braking system functions confidently. Road manners are calm, composed, and delightfully plush — exactly what one expects from Crewe’s golden era.
With its elegant presentation, excellent specification, and sympathetic restoration, this Silver Cloud II offers classic Rolls-Royce prestige at a fraction of the price of a concours example, with room to enjoy or improve as desired.
Summary
A well-restored, highly usable example of one of Rolls-Royce’s most admired postwar designs. This left-hand-drive Silver Cloud II features the desirable 6.2-litre V8, automatic transmission, and classic luxury appointments. Though not flawless, it presents with honesty, elegance, and mechanical soundness — an ideal candidate for touring, weekend drives, or further light refinement.
Offered complete with spare wheel, jack, flashlight, and tire pump.
