1957 BMW Isetta 300 – Fully Restored, Matching Colors, Expert Engine Rebuild
This 1957 BMW Isetta 300 is a beautifully restored example of the iconic “bubble car,” freshly completed by its owner of three years following an extensive cosmetic and mechanical restoration. Powered by a rebuilt 298cc single-cylinder four-stroke engine paired with a fully reconditioned 4-speed manual gearbox, this Isetta has been returned to its original Red and White exterior over a Creme and Tan interior. The restoration included a full disassembly, with the chassis media-blasted and refinished, all mechanicals rebuilt, and the interior professionally reupholstered by marque expert David Raab.
Engine work was carried out by noted Isetta specialist John Wentzel, with the Dynastart unit rebuilt by Bill Rogers. The car has seen minimal mileage—approximately 1,000 kilometers—since completion and is said to remain mechanically sound and visually striking.
The glossy two-tone Red and White finish presents beautifully in photos, complemented by a factory-style luggage rack and period-correct wicker case mounted at the rear. All chrome and aluminum trim has been refinished, and the rubber seals and gaskets were replaced throughout. The Isetta’s signature front-entry door and panoramic greenhouse design remain signature hallmarks of its unmistakable silhouette.
Inside, the fully restored Creme and Tan interior shows minimal signs of use and includes fresh upholstery, side panels, and a new carpeted floor mat. During the restoration, the car received Dynamat insulation and a new wiring harness, enhancing both comfort and reliability. The speedometer is functional, with a new OEM cable installed, and all controls are reported to operate as intended.
The Isetta was originally developed by ISO SpA of Italy and licensed to BMW in the mid-1950s. Starting in 1956, the model received a displacement upgrade to 298cc, improving its output and drivability. This example benefits from that upgrade and is offered today with approximately 11,000 km on the odometer and just 1,000 km since the restoration.
