Description
1932 Ford Highboy Roadster – Ardun-Powered Steel Deuce with Vintage Performance
This custom-built 1932 Ford Highboy Roadster is a masterfully executed tribute to traditional hot rodding, blending period-correct aesthetics with serious mechanical pedigree. Completed approximately two decades ago, this example features a Ford steel body finished in glossy black paintwork, mounted on a reworked TCI chassis that delivers both strength and authenticity.
At the heart of this build is a 296ci flathead V8, upgraded with Ardun overhead-valve hemispherical heads—a legendary setup that transforms the flathead’s performance and visual appeal. Fuel delivery is handled by triple Stromberg 97 carburetors, while power is routed through a 1939 Ford three-speed manual gearbox equipped with Zephyr gearsets and a Frankland quick-change rear differential, offering both vintage charm and modern drivability.
The suspension setup is equally well-considered:
- Dropped front axle with chrome radius rods by Pete & Jake’s
- Traditional buggy-style rear suspension
- Ford Houdaille hydraulic shocks
- Staggered steel wheels wrapped in period-style rubber
- Hydraulic drum brakes, with finned Buick drums up front for enhanced stopping power and visual flair
Inside, the cabin maintains a classic hot rod feel with:
- Black-upholstered bench seating
- Stewart-Warner gauges
- Period-style banjo steering wheel
With 55,000 miles and three documented owners, this Highboy Roadster has been carefully maintained and thoughtfully built to honor the spirit of early American performance. The combination of a steel Deuce body, Ardun power, and traditional styling cues makes this example a standout among custom prewar builds.
Whether destined for show circuits, vintage rallies, or spirited weekend drives, this 1932 Ford Highboy Roadster delivers timeless appeal and mechanical excellence in equal measure.
